2019 GRANFONDO STELVIO SANTINI: ENTRIES OPENING ON OCTOBER 22nd!

From monday October 22nd 2018 a total of 1,500 bibs will be available at the special early bird price of just 60 euro until the end of the year. Then, the entry price gradually increases between January 1st 2019 and close of entries. Once again, competitors will have to wear the official Santini race jersey provided in the race pack, throughout the event. This year, however, there is a new women’s jersey in a great feminine colour and cut.

The first Sunday in June every year brings a welcome event for road cycling marathon lovers: the Granfondo Stelvio Santini, which sees 3,500 of the aforementioned take to the roads of Valtellina. A must-do event that tackles the area’s daunting climbs, including the legendary Mortirolo and the Stelvio passes, which were the scenes of some of the great epic cycling feats of the past.

Dates to remember

The entry format for the Granfondo Stelvio Santini has been staggered: as bibs are snapped up, the price of entry increases. Entries open on Monday, October 22nd  2018 with 1,500 places available until the end of year at the lower early bird price of just 60 euro. Between January 1st and February 28th 2019, however, the entry price rises to 70 euro with 1,000 places available.  In March and April, 500 places will be available at a price of 80 euro. Then, last but not least, 200 latecomers will have a final bite at the cherry from May 1st to May 15th 2019 but will have to pay 200 euro for the privilege.

«This entry format is designed to reward loyalty to the event. By which I mean all the people who marked off the date on their calendar as soon as the last edition was over and are very keen to conquer the Stelvio» Santini Cycling Wear CEO Monica Santini

An exclusive race pack

Taking part in the Granfondo Stelvio Santini is a source of great pride for cyclists so when they sign up to they will be given the official jersey designed and made for the event by Santini Cycling Wear. Delivered in the race pack, the men’s and women’s jerseys differ in both cut and colour. This choice lends the race a very strong, instantly-recognisable identity and ensures the cyclists feel like they are part of one big family, even when they are just going for a spin with friends. To underscore the importance of creating a sense of unity in the Granfondo, the organisers have reiterated once again that wearing the race jersey is compulsory throughout the event itself. In fact, volunteers will be checking all entrants before the start to ensure they are properly attired.

«The sight of so many cyclists competing in the same jersey is genuinely unique. The fact that everyone wears the same jersey throughout the race is something we are particularly keen on because it allows the competitors to get totally involved in the race and also ensures the organisers can pick them out» Paola Santini, Santini Cycling Wear Marketing Manager

In addition to the much-coveted jersey, all the riders that cross the finish-line at the top of the Stelvio Pass will receive an exclusive Finisher-emblazoned cap to make their achievement absolutely official!

Conquering the demon routes!

The three race routes also return once again next year. The 151-kilometre long route, which has a 4,000-metre-plus elevation change, is perfect for cyclists with strong legs and big hearts, while the 138-kilometre medium route includes the gruelling Mortirolo climb. Finally, the 60-kilometre short route may not be quite so long but it still throws up an elevation change just short of 2,000 metres. Another return from the 2018 edition will be the classifications. The first classification will be divided according to the three different routes and calculated on the sum of the individual riders’ time trial times with a polka dot Granfondo Stelvio Santini King Of The Mountain (men) or a polka dot Granfondo Stelvio Santini Queen Of The Mountain (women) jersey for the top riders in each category. Additionally, the Kings and Queens of the Mountain that clock the best overall times on the three climbs (Teglio, Mortirolo and Stelvio) will also receive a special polka dot jersey. Last but very far from least, the team with the largest number of entrants and the team with the most finishers will also receive prizes. There is no overall classification but the start-to-finish total times for every finisher will be published in alphabetical order.
